RRS Apprehends Two Suspects For Stealing 20 Bags Of Cement

The Operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command,  have arrested a 35 year old man, Abiola Hamzat and his accomplice, Adebayo Kazeem, 32, for stealing 20 bags of cement from a brick making company based in Agbado area of the state.

The suspect was arrested by the Policemen after he had successfully stolen the items from their working place.

The arrested suspect, a father of three, stole the 20 bags of cement from the company a day after he was promoted to the post of a supervisor with a financial reward of N215,000:00 per month.

It was learnt that the suspect who is a university graduate, was lured into the crime out of greed and lack of contentment.

According to sources within the company, Hamzat, a graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), started work at the factory as a Contract Security from where he rose to become an operator.

"However, he was formally promoted three days ago to the post of a Supervisor, when the company’s management discovered that he was a university graduate," the source added.

He was arrested on last Thursday along with an accomplice after moving 20 bags of cement out of the factory in Agbado area.

Upon his arrival at the RRS' Headquarters, the suspect who owned up to the crime, said  that he masterminded the crime.

In his confessional statement, the suspect said, "I masterminded the crime but I only co-opted Adebayo into the plan. Initially, Adebayo discouraged me that it was not possible to steal cement at the company. After so much pressure, he told me to carry the gateman along in order to be successful which I eventually yielded to.... I had an accommodation problem with my family. I was desperately looking for funds to house them. That was what pushed me into it.”

According to sources within the company, Hamzat’s new salary as a Supervisor triples his wage as an operator.

While confirming the arrest, the Spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus, advised companies operating in the state to be vigilant at all time.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Yaba for prosecution.

Police Begin Enforcement Of Traffic Law On Friday

Bent on the enforcement of the Lagos State Road Traffic Law as well as prevent crime committed with the use of motorcycles in the metropolis, the Lagos State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies would on this Friday begin a clamp down on motorcyclists plying prohibited routes.

This was the resolution of a meeting held today at the office of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, and attended by representatives of other security and transport related agencies in the state.

The meeting which was chaired by Mr. Owoseni had in attendance representative of the Commissioner of Transportation, Commandant of Civil Defence, General Manager, LASTMA and Commander RRS among others.

Mr. Owoseni noted that the Command had observed an increase in the trend of crime perpetrated by motorcyclists in the metropolis, particularly, in prohibited routes, hence, the need to rejig the enforcement of the law banning motorcycles on restricted routes in the State.

He ordered a complete clamp down on recalcitrant motorcyclists plying Alausa, Ikeja, Victoria Island and Ikoyi starting from Friday, 27th January 2017, adding that the move would help provide security of lives and property.

He stated that all motorcycles impounded and erring motorcyclist arrested are to be taken to Taskforce, Oshodi.

He advised motorcyclists to avoid prohibited routes.

Auto Parts Dealer Tells Me Cars To Vandalize - Suspect

A 33 year old suspect, Olawasegun Oladimeji, arrested by operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command for vandalising Toyota cars in Victoria Island, has confessed that a spare part dealer in Ladipo International Market was the one who gave him the specifications of cars to vandalise.

The suspect, a barber by profession, was arrested in Lekki last week by the RRS officials, barely six weeks after he regained freedom from Kirikiri Prison, Lagos.

The suspect, according to report had just vandalised some vehicles around Lekki before he was apprehended by the RRS's patrol team.

Found in his possession were several body parts of Toyota Corolla and mobile phones, which he stole from the garage guards, who were sleeping when he broke in.

He disclosed that he was released from prison in November, 2016 after he was convicted for three months for removing Toyota body parts in another garage in Apapa, in July, 2016.

According to him, "Oga Dona (auto parts dealer) has my number. He would call to give me the type of vehicle body parts that are on high demand in the market. He would tell me to get them for him.... I have been working for him now for 8 years. I steal different vehicle body parts, particularly, Toyota products.... I remove Toyota Corolla brain box, headlight, rear light, buttons, etc.... Since I came back from prison in November, 2016, I have stolen brain-boxes of 47 cars. My targets are Toyota products.”

He continued, “Whenever I am going on operation, he is the ones that gives me transport money. Most times, he tells me the specifications of the car he wants me to operate on.... I live in Marwa, Victoria Island. I had surveyed the company earlier in the day. And I knew those cars belonged to that company.... At about 4:00 a.m after operation, I had removed all I need to remove. The security sighted me and raised alarm. They were chasing me.... Unfortunately for me, RRS officers were patroling. They sighted me, pursued me with their vehicle and arrested me."

Oladimeji added; “I gained by breaking one of the small side glasses at the back seat. After I might have gotten all those parts, I would call Oga Dona who would tell me where to meet any of his boys for the collection of the parts.... Chidozie Onyema (32) and Ananyor Chukwu (33) were the guys Oga Dona usually send to me to collect those things on his behalf.... At times, I take it to them in Boundary in Ajegunle and most times in Toyota Bus Stop, Oshodi. I sell Toyota Corolla brain box for N30,000; N25,000 or N20,000. The least of the parts is N2,000.”

In his confessional statement, Ananyor Chuwku said, “Our boss, Oga Dona, usually gives me N30, 000 to N35, 000 to give Segun and collect the goods in his hand.... He asked me to wait for him at Toyota bus stop or any other place to collect the stolen car parts from Segun.... At times, he gives me N1, 000 or N500 after the deal. Occasionally, he tells me nothing ‘dey on top’. Segun has been supplying  stolen spare parts to him for up to 8 years. We are just hustlers.... Chigozie has another oga that he supplied stolen spare parts to.”

Confirming the incident, the State's Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus, said that the Command will not rest on its oars in nipping in the bud criminal activities in the state.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba for further investigation.

RRS Nabs Lagos Fraud Kingpin, Syndicate Members, Recovers Fake Dollars

Men of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command, over the weekend, arrested one Segun Akuntola who is alleged to be the kingpin of a syndicate that specializes in defrauding innocent citizens within the State.

The suspect, popularly known as Okadigbo, was apprehended by the Decoy Team of the squad in his shrine at Ijora over his involvement in fraud perpetrated by the 4-man gang under him.

The fraud, which was perpetrated in Ikorodu about a year ago was supervised by an accomplice, Christian Odokor, 43. The syndicate had duped a lady known as Joy (not real name) while in transit from Ikorodu towards Mile 12, where the victim had planned to buy some goods.

Preliminary investigation conducted by the Decoy Team of RRS revealed that Okadigbo is the arrow head of several syndicates of fraudsters operating in different parts of Lagos State and some parts of Ogun State.

The members of his syndicate, it was learnt, report to his shrine regularly where their nefarious activities were always planned.

Until his arrest over the weekend, four of his accomplices earlier arrested by the operatives of RRS have given him out as their ring-leader.

The operatives were reported to have been on the lookout for him, but he has remained evasive through 2016.

Okadigbo while confessing to being a fraudster who operated by pretending to be herb seller in parts of the metropolis denied being the leader of the syndicate traced to him.

According to him, “it is true they used my shrine and office. They bring their victims there but everybody operated on their own. They all assemble there but everybody managed their group…. Although, the fake dollar they use is mine but I don’t know anything about this job for which they have been arrested.”

“I operated by selling herbs, but I market quick money rituals to people as well as herbs for people looking for children. I do spiritual bath for clients and that is how I defraud people and make my money,” he disclosed.

Christain Odokor, the leader of the Ikorodu fraudsters, in his confessional statement said, "We robbed her (Joy) about a year ago…. We took all she had from him including the sum of N300,000:00 and recharge cards of all networks worth N120,000:00 Okadigbo is our master whom most of us report to at least thrice in a week.

All of us, about nine groups that I know report to him. We operated in different parts of the metropolis…. He is so powerful and fiery that no police dare to arrest him. Now, I was shocked seeing him here with us in your custody,” he added.

Another member of the team, Toyin Idebi, 25, said that greed made her join the gang two years ago. "I was a stylist and doing well before I joined them. When I saw how they were spending money on ladies like me, then I moved closer to them to know their secret…. Initially, they were reluctant to tell me their job as they just told me they were into export and import business. I pressed on till one of them asked me if I can keep a secret. He opened up and I joined them."

She continued, "My main job was to act as someone who was carrying foreign currencies who didn't know her destination. Though, those currencies were fake but I didn't how Okadigbo got them.”

While recounting her ordeal, the victim said," It was on Wednesday afternoon, January 13th 2016 on my way to market. The lady amongst them flagged me down by calling Sabo passengers from Ikorodu garage.… When I saw the lady sitting and calling for prospective passengers I never thought otherwise. Immediately I hopped in and sat down beside her. I saw three other men inside the car.”

“Suddenly as we were progressing, the lady begged me to help her with my phone to make phone calls giving excuse that she had no call card on hers…. As a lady, I handed over my phone to her and she made two separate calls with my phone. As we moved a bit far more, the driver detoured the journey to unknown destination…. I queried the driver where he was taken me to, he refused to respond. Suddenly, they pulled over in the middle of the way, the driver pointed gun at me and the lady showed me knife to cooperate…. They ransacked my bag and removed the whole money with the recharge cards, and they sped off," she added.

Confirming the incident, the State's Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus, said that the Command will not rest on its oars until it rids the state of bad elements and reduce the criminal activities in the state to the bearest minimum.

She added that the kingpin and his gang members would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

The suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

BOY, 14, FLEES JOS, RESCUES IN LAGOS

A-14 year old boy, Israel Solomon, who  fled his parent’s home in Jos was ye

sterday evening intercepted and rescued by operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos Police Command at Ojota, Lagos.

Solomon, a Birom by tribe, was seen wandering Ojota Bus Stop, when the operatives decided to call him for questioning.
He said that his parents live in Mango Junction, Opposite Gada Biyu, Jos.

He could not give reasons why he ran away from home. All entreaties to make him give reasons for his actions proved abortive. 

Solomon said the bus conveying from Jos got to Lagos late at Sunday evening, adding that he passed the night sleeping under the foot bridge at the Ojodu Berger Bus Stop.

He explained that he was trekking from Ojodu Berger to Ojota when the officer cited him wandering, emphasizing that he knew no relatives in Lagos before embarking on the journey.

Source said checks on his body did not betray any evidence of physical abuse. He also couldn’t give the phone contact of his parents or any of his relatives based in Jos, Plateau.

Solomon has been taken to Olusosun Police Station, behind Phillip, Ojota by the RRS Team.

The source disclosed that he would be taken from there to a station where radio signal would be raised to the closest police station to his house in Jos.

Christmas Expenses Pushed Me Into Stealing – Suspect

A 24-year old driver accused of stealing his boss' car, TVs and a pet dog,  has confessed that Christmas needs of his siblings pushed him into the stealing.

The suspect, Abass Ope, from Ogun State was arrested at Ojuelegba area of Lagos by the Decoy Team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the State Police Command, on last year Boxing Day.

He was picked up by the Police while trying to sell off his ex-boss’s Toyota Avensis 2013 model with the registration number AGL 734 AR for N2 million.

Arrested along with him were three of his friends: Balogun Oluwaseun (23); Sanni Azeez (23) and Stephen Ewiele (22).

Abass had during  Christmas period stormed his boss Magodo home while he and his family were holidaying in Delta State, with a conspirator to move a 100 inches LCD TV, another 42 inches LCD TV, a dog, a suitcase, 2 DSTV decoders and a Toyota Avensis, from the home.

 

It was learnt that the suspect invaded the home of his ex-boss after learning that he had travelled to Delta State for the Christmas holiday, and that the gatekeeper had also gone to church.

Our source said that the suspect was aware of where his boss usually kept keys to his rooms which made it easy for him to commit the crime.

It was revealed that his ex-boss, on getting report of missing vehicle and property called the suspect on more than two occasions to intimate him of the development but he denied knowledge of the incidence.

The source further added that the boss had to cut short his holiday in Delta with his family to report the incident at Magodo Police Station.

The source added that he was shocked when an official of the RRS called him to notify him of his recovered vehicle because, he never reported the theft in RRS office.

According to Abass, “I took the car because I had no money to take care of myself and younger ones. They had no clothes, no shoes and this is Yuletide season. They looked up to me to take care of these expenses…. It was about three months now that I left Mr. Ekinodo (his former boss). I had worked for him for four years before leaving him on August, 2016. I left because he had a little challenge and things were pretty tough for him. I left so that he could have himself sorted out."

He continued; “he was a very nice boss to work with. He enrolled me into University but I couldn’t continue the education when I left him. While he had this challenge, he owed me 8 month salary; this prompted me to take his property and the vehicle.”

He added, “the auto dealer wanted to pay N2 million for the car but I insisted he pays N4 Million because I know it is worth more than that.… He offered me N1million instantly and that the balance would be ready in about few minutes time, but I decided to ignore the offer hoping that the dealer would call me back for a re-negotiation…. I went back to Ojuelegba few hours later in company of three of my friends, that was when RRS operatives arrested us.”

According to Ekinodo Ifoghale, “I am in shock. This is a guy I treated like a son. Apart from my wife, he was the closest person to me. This is a guy that did my shopping for me. Even, before I buy anything for myself, I bought for him first”.

“How can I owe him 8 months’ salary when he never worked for me in those periods? Did he inform me that I owed him? He was never in my house in the periods he claimed.… I called him more than twice when I got the report of the break in. He told me he knew nothing about it. If he had told me he needed money, I would have given him because we were still very close despite the fact that he was no longer working for me,” he added.

Confirming the incident, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmos, advised members of the public to always do a background check of their domestic servants so as not to expose themselves to criminals.

Lagos Police Arrests Fake Soldier For Stealing Bikes

The operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected fake soldier allegedly involved in stealing motorcycles, popularly known as okada across the states in Nigeria.

The suspect, Benjamin Okon, who has been parading himself as a military personnel, was arrested by the policemen who acted on a tip-off from members of the public.

It was learnt that the policemen swooped into action upon receiving the information, which eventually led to the arrest of the suspect on Sunday, January 1st 2017 at about 05.00 hrs.

“The suspect was fond of intimidating members of the public under the pretence that he is a Military personnel. His hostile attitude made people not to associate with him, however, when we suspected his moves, we summoned courage to report to the police,” the source revealed.

The suspect, who made a confessional statement during investigation at the police Command, said that he had an accomplice (name withheld) who received the stolen items from him.

He revealed that he usually goes to neighbouring states to snatch motorcycles, and his receiver, helped him to sell them to prospective buyers.

“I am an expert at snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting members of the public. I had stolen countless of Okada, which my accomplice had helped me to sell. I do travel far and wide across the country to perpetrate this crime…. I robbed and sold looted items to him, and he subsequently sell them to some other persons. Once I bring the bikes to him, he will pay me off and I will move on to steal another one,” the suspect revealed.

In her reaction, the State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) Superintendent of Police, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the incident, said that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.

She noted that efforts are in top gear to apprehend the receivers and others who have connection with the crime.

We Gang raped 9 women in Charity Bus Stop – Suspect

Sunday John, a 27 year old leader of a 4 man robbery gang and serial rapist, arrested at Charity Bus Stop by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, has confessed to have led 3 other members of his gang to rape nine women in the last two weeks.

The suspect, a bus conductor in Oshodi from Akwa Ibom was arrested in Charity Bus Stop around 5:38 a.m. on Wednesday in company of his two gang members by the Decoy Team of the Rapid Response Squad.

The names of his gang members are Saviour Daniel (23), Daniel Olayemi (18) and Abdulwahab Yusuph (17).

The operatives had on Tuesday evening arrested one of John’s colleagues while fighting with another group of boys over a Samsung tablet in Oshodi.

The suspect, Daniel Olayemi, a member of John’s gang, had disclosed to interrogators that he stole the tablet from a lady that was gang raped during one of their escapades in Charity Bus stop.

The revelation prompted early morning raid of Charity Bus Stop near Oshodi, where three other members of the gang were arrested.

Olayemi, in his disclosure to investigators revealed that they were four in John’s gang. He noted that in the last two weeks, the gang robbed 12 passers-by and raped no fewer than nine ladies in the bush at Charity Bus Stop.

“I have followed him to more than 12 operations. We were always operating at Charity Bus Stop from 4:00 a.m. to 5:40 a.m. Our last operation was on a lady of about 57 years old. She was passing by Charity Bus Stop. I snatched her hand bag and disappeared into the bush…. I came out of the bush to see three of my colleagues having sex with the lady. I hid the best of three phones I found in the lady’s bag. I disclosed to them that I saw two small phones and N8, 000:00 in the lady’s bag,” he stated.

He continued, “We had in a similar circumstance days before, raped a 42 year old lady at the same spot when we didn’t see any valuable from her bag. We took turns to rape her, then, we allowed her to go….

In all the rape cases, John takes the initiative and the lead. He dragged the ladies into the bush before calling us to take our turns. He is the leader of the gang. None of us dare challenge him. He doesn’t share with us whatever we made from the robberies. That was why I stole the Samsung tablet from that lady”, he added.

“We also robbed men too. I participated in the robbery of about three men at the charity Bus Stop. In all the instances, John took a commanding lead, seizing the victims and dragging them into the bush where we either rape or took their valuables,” he noted.

According to Saviour Daniel said, “I didn’t partake in all the raping. I was only involved on three occasions. John was the one who dragged them into the bush and undress them. He took the lead and ordered us to take turns…. He is our leader. He is stronger than us and he instructed us to have sex with them. Whenever, he is exhausted, he ordered us to take our turn. I go after him. It is the youngest of us, Olayemi that came last. At times, they distanced themselves whenever we were taking turns."

Compelled by the revelations of his colleagues, Sunday John explained “In the last two weeks, we had robbed and dragged nine women between the ages of 27 years to 57 years into bush and rape them…. We took turns to rape them. While our primary aim was to steal their valuables, I have been having raping most of them after robbing them. It is true that it has been my idea but we have all been doing it together,” he revealed.

“After robbing the ladies, I dragged them into the nearby bush. If they are younger ladies, I carry her into the bush. Like, about 24 year old lady I carried into the bush two weeks ago…. After taking our turns on her, they (colleagues) all ran away. They took all she had on her. When they were gone, all her dress was all messed up. I took her to where she cleaned up…. She couldn’t even find her shoes. I got new set of slippers for her before I gave her N500 transport money and to where she boarded a bus to Iyana Ipaja," he said.

“Whenever, we take a lady, we normally rape them but not all women. Most of those we raped were between 24 years to late 50s, like a mama we raped last Sunday, she was in her late 50s,” he maintained.

He added, “We are not the only gang that operate there. I know of about three other gangs that rob there. Some groups of boys come from Agbado and Agege to operate at Charity Bus Stop. They operate in the evening.

RRS Decoy team, it was learnt have placed it surveillance team in Charity Bus Stop with the hope of arresting other gangs mentioned by Sunday John.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Dolapo Badmos, said that the suspects have made very useful suggestions to enable the police arrest other group members implicated in the crime.

The suspects have been transferred to SCID for further investigations.
